Stone Statues

All of our statues are hand carved in the stone carving district of Gianyar Bali. The sculptors who create these durable works of art apprentice and practice their entire life to become masters of the trade. The materials used are either volcanic lava rock, green stone (known as sukabumi ) and red or grey river stone. The river stones are the hardest, heaviest and highest quality of the choices. They hold the best detail and take the longest time to create due to the density of the rock. The lava stone is the lightest of the materials and while it can’t be finely detailed, it has a pleasant porous texture and dark grey to almost black color. The green stone has a natural earthly hue which allows it to blend in well with its natural surroundings, making it the perfect accent for landscapes and gardens. 

A Joglo is an Indonesian structure or house built in the traditional Javanese vernacular. The architectural design is characterized by open walls and a dominant overhanging roof which serves too protect the inhabitants from heavy tropical rains and heat while allowing cross breezes to flow freely through the structure. Our Joglos are hand made by skilled Balinese craftsman and professional Javanese wood carvers under the strict supervision of our builder Imade. Imade is a Master Joglo builder and one of the most sought after in the famous Ubud district. He has an art degree and 20 years of experience designing and building the most impressive Joglos throughout Bali. From Ubud vacation houses to fancy restaurants, his structures are as sturdy as they are creative while retaining a traditional cultural style. The materials for his projects are mostly sourced by finding reclaimed teak timbers taken from old buildings on the island of Java, bamboo, and renewable grass weavings.

Wood Carvings

All of our wooden carvings are made by hand with no machinery involved at all. They are produced in a town called Mas in Ubud Bali which is the epicenter of woodcarving in Indonesia. The artisans are some of the best wood carvers in the world and many are students of the famous Njana Tilem carving school. They take tremendous pride in their unique stylistic craft as it is a family tradition passed down through generations.  Mas has long been internationally recognized for its spectacular wooden art and has produced some of Bali’s most famous artists. The majority of our carvings are made from Suar wood (otherwise known as raintree or monkeypod) which is a fast growing prolific wood located throughout the tropical world.
